The Big Day Out at MOTAT

The Lions Car Display and Swapmeet is the biggest day out for the members of the Ford 8 and 10 Car Club of the year. This is the event that all the cars come out to; this year was no exception with a great line up of vehicles.

The cars are supposed to be on site by 9.45am, some came a little later, ours did not come at all as its engine is still on the garage floor awaiting diagnoses of the funny noise it has acquired.

Most people after the Gazebo is erected place their chairs in its vicinity for the day, then wander off looking at the other cars, Motat display halls where a lot of planes reside, the swapmeet, there is a band playing near the swapmeet, and other stalls, various expensive ice-cream and food outlets.

The steam train makes small journeys back and forth blowing smoke everywhere but the children young and old seem to enjoy riding on it. The Trams now also goes back and forth between the two Motat areas and are well patronized.

The first monthly meeting of the year takes place and all members present are welcome to take part. We see many of our members there during the day this year I saw Noel and Terry, and the Chaplin's, I did not spend as much time on the site as usual as Catlin my granddaughter came with us and wanted to see everything three times over.

This was a nice day the sun shone and the wind stayed away, there are things to do and see and no one is bored (as far as I know).

The 2009 Caparo T1

Even this supercar had been involved in a fiery incident with a Fifth Gear host, scared the Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson and is generally completely impractical, the 575hp (429kW) Caparo T1 still exudes a sort of animal magnetism.

The 1000hp/tonne power-to-weight ratio doesn’t hurt the experience. That’s roughly double the ratio of the Bugatti Veyron, and enough to rocket the car to 60mph (96km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds, and on to 100mph (160km/h) in under 5. But perhaps the most impressive stats of the Caparo T1 are the lateral and braking force figures: up to three times the force of gravity throws the driver left, right and forward. This supercar full details on the 2009 version of the car have yet to be released, but Caparo has revealed five new levels of specification will be available. The entry-level variant is a stripped-down race track-only version, while a Race Extreme variant gets upgraded electronics, the most powerful engine package fully carbon brakes and super-lightweight magnesium wheels.

Z28 Chevrolet Camaro LS1 V8 Sports Coupe

Z28 Chevrolet Camarore LS1 V8 Sports Coupe

The MK IV Chevrolet Camaro retained the same layout as the very first Camaro's back in 1967, 2-doors, 2+2 seating, rear-wheel drive, choice of V6 and V8 powerplants, and available in both coupe and convertible forms (the convertible was introduced in 1994).
The fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro debuted for the 1993 model year on the previous generation Camaro platform.

The MK4 Camaro
featured the 5.7 L (350 cid) LT1 V8 engine that had been introduced in the Corvette one year earlier, as well as an optional six-speed manual transmission. The 1998 model year was refreshed and revised with both exterior and engine changes. Replacing the LT1 was GM's all-new 5.7 L (346 cid) LS1 which had been introduced with the Corvette C5.
The Camaro is to return in 2009 however as a retro styled sports coupe.
The fourth-gen Camaro would last up through the 2002 model year, at which point production was stopped due to slow sales.

Frogeye Sprite Austin Healey the first of several Sprite models

Frogeye Sprite Austin Healey

Frogeye Sprite Austin Healey the first of several Sprite models.
The Austin Healey Sprite which was introduced in 1958 was a diminutive roadster with an unmistakable headlight arrangement.
The prominent headlights were initially intended to be flip-up units. However the cost of retractable headlights was to high, and instead they were fixed in what would have been the 'up' position. Their unusual location gave rise to the cars affectionate nickname, the "Frogeye" Sprite.
The Austin Healey Sprite MK I was powered by a 1.0 litre, inline, four cylinder engine which developed a grand total of 43 horsepower. Coupled to a four speed manual gearbox it was capable of propelling the car up to 84 mph.
The Frogeye Sprite (which was discontinued in 1961) was the first of several Sprite models. In 1962 the MK II Austin Healey Sprite was introduced. The MK II introduced several updates, the most noticeable of which was a more conventional headlight layout. From 1961 the Austin Healey Sprite was also sold as the MG Midget.

City Council takes up livery cab passengers' bill of rights

Passengers of the city's 40,000 livery cabs are finally getting a bill of rights of their own.

The list of what riders are entitled to in a livery or black car will be posted in the passenger section, under a bill set to be passed Wednesday by the City Council.

The exact language is yet to be determined by the Taxi and Limousine Commission, but some of the rights include: displayed driver's license; a safe and courteous driver who obeys all traffic laws; clean air in the vehicle that is smoke and scent free; a preapproved fare quoted by the dispatcher, and the right to decline to tip.

"Today when you get into one of these cars, passengers truly have no idea what their rights are, if any," said chief sponsor, Councilman Daniel Garodnick (D-Manhattan).

Yellow cab passengers have had a similar bill of rights since 1996.

Christine Quinn (D-Manhattan) said passengers who summon livery cars may not widely know that they can complain about lousy rides or fare disputes to the TLC.

Even so, Garodnick said about 1,000 complaints are filed each year by passengers of for-hire cars.

TLC Commissioner Matthew Daus said, "We look forward to supporting the legislation that we crafted together, and seeing that it is properly implemented once the mayor signs it into law."

Volkswagen Golf R20T

Volkswagen first hinted at a new high-performance version of the Scirocco coupe when it revealed the GT24 race concept back at the Austrian Wörthersee Tour tuning show in May, but in what form the car will finally come to production is still up in the air. A report from AutoExpress suggests that the Volkswagen brand has finally succumbed to pressures by canning the 3.2-litre naturally aspirated V6 in favour of its trusted 2.0-litre turbo. This move applies to the range-topping Golf which is not the GTI but the R32. What's more is that the name R32 will disappear along with the engine to which it referred. Instead the car will likely be called the R20T and its chief rivals will be the Ford Focus RS, VW Group cousin the Audi S3 and the Subaru Impreza STI.

According to CAR, the new R20T will go on sale in Europe in early 2010 and will closely match the styling of the GT24 race concept. Key features likely lifted from the concept include the aggressively styled bumper with larger intakes and unique fog lights, as well as the slightly wider fenders and lower ride height.

By tweaking the 2.0-litre's ECU about 270bhp (201kW) can be extracted, which is similar to the Audi S3's power output of 265bhp from the same engine. A high-performance Scirocco R20T is also expected to use the same engine. The car will not only have more power than the current V6's 250bhp (186kW) but also weigh less as a result of the smaller engine. Thus improved performance overall and fewer C02 emissions can be expected. Whether a 4WD system or FWD will be used remains to be seen. However two gearboxes will be mated to whichever system is chosen, these being the 6-speed manual and DSG.

Styling is likely to be similar to that of the GTI and include LED daytime running lights, a sportier front bumper, flared wheel arches, and an underbody diffuser. The twin pipes located at the rear bumper centre remain in place but because the V6 is no more a similar sound will be engineered.

Lamborghini Garage diorama (1:18 scale)

I have already spent three months working on this diorama (and still in progress). Majority of the accessories seen are from my own creation coming from different materials. Initially, I had only planned to do a simple garage, but I noticed some more things missing. So I decided to do some extensions of the set.

The car lift is a Hotworks Up & Down lift. I didn't use the base and wall that came with the set. Instead, I created a simpler base that actually looks much better.I had also bought a Snap On garage essential tool set to add on this diorama.
I fabricated a fixed door and door handle. I also cut some pictures from various magazines and converted them to wall posters.Ceiling lights using LEDs.
I fabricated this air gauge, hose and nozzle, together with the tubing Fabricated car batteryFabricated stainless steel work bench with drawers.Fabricated springs and wrenches.Fabricated wall outlets and power extension cord.
Fabricated wall fuse box.
Real working exhaust fan.
Lamborghini cut-out sticker for the main wall.
Wall posters.
I had replaced the monitor's screen from Snap-On to Lamborghini logo. Repainted the keyboard as well.
Fabricated and installed the lift switch.
Wall posters
Fabricated dry white board with marker and eraser.
Fabricated tool drawer with side handles .Added a few more fabricated items. Such are wrenches, elbow tire wrench, aluminum braided hoses and radiator filler cap.Fabricated a laptop, chair, braided fan belts, and braided hoses.
Fabricated some boxes
I got this engine from my son's wrecked Bburago Diablo. I detailed, repainted and replaced the plastic wires with real ones.
Added some wheels from the wrecked Diablo.
I repainted and added seatbelts and buckles to the wrecked Diablo's bucket seats.
Fabricated an air compressor with hose and spray gun for the garage's paint booth.
Fabricated a folding ladder.
Fabricated a Makita 9227C buffing machine.
Paint booth extension. Here, I have used the Up & Down lift's base. I repainted the wall and weathered the flooring. I repainted the wrecked Diablo's body to white as primer preparation. As well as the doors. Fabricated some buckets.
Added some boxes
Fabricated paint table and paint cans.
Fabricated another stainless work table, sand paper and sanding backing pad.
Working sliding door connecting the main garage to the paint booth.Added some GI Joe figures donated by a fellow diecast collector, Myk Formoso. I grinded some of the weapons fixed the their bodies and repainted them.
Fabricated another long stainless steel work bench. Added some rubber hoses and braided aluminum hoses.
The garage with working lights on the ceiling.
Refurbished and repainted the shocks of the wrecked Diablo. I also added piston rods and springs to replicate the real ones.
Fabricated a Digital Engine Timing and ECU management analyzer computer.
Fabricated an angled wall mirror.
Facade of the exterior side walls.
Still in progress. This is how the whole diorama should look like from a distance. I'm adding a driveway/parking on the front side, working flood lights and ceiling for the paint booth.

Roll up gates
With lighted sign board

I hope you enjoyed viewing my creation. Thanks for looking. :)
