I saw on Lisa Takeuchi Cullen , a New York-based staff writer at Time, a game called Free Rice. This web site poses spelling-bee-level vocabulary words and four multiple-choice definitions. For each word you get right the United Nations donate 10 grains of rice to help end world hunger. To play and help click on Free Rice. Learning new vocabulary has tremendous benefits!

Free Rice is a sister site of the world poverty site Poverty.com. FreeRice has two goals:

1) Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.

2) Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

I saw on Tongue in Cheek, Corey Amaro's blog, a nice video clip that makes me smile! The music is "Love Generation". I loved the rhythm, the music and the lyrics! Listening it I have the desire to dance. The singer is Bob Sinclar and I must admit I had never heard about him before.The music "Love Generation" was a great hit in 2005 and in 2006 the song was a huge success throughout Europe. Bob Sinclar, mistaken many times as "Sinclair", born Christophe Le Friant, 10 May 1967, is a French record producer, House music DJ and remixer. ARNALDO POMODORO'S SCULPTURES

With this post I guess I'm starting a new series of some interestings sites I have found wandering over Internet. As a matter of fact my last post about newspaper's sculpture was the first one of this series I named "What I saw on the Internets".

So, I saw for the first time on New York Daily Photo (Brian's blog) this amazing sculpture, "Sfera con sfera", that means "Sphere with Sphere" created by the Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro. Pomodoro was born on June 23, 1926 in Morciano, Romagna, Italy and currently lives and works in Milan. (You can see his sculptures here and here)

Some of Pomodoro's "Sfera con Sfera" can be seen in the Vatican Museums, Trinity College in Dublin, the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. and the University of California, Berkeley.

Some of the highlights include a controversial fiberglass crucifix for the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The piece is topped with a fourteen foot in diameter crown of thorns which hovers over the figure of Christ.

The sculptor also traveled to Brazil on the occasion of his participation in the 1963 São Paulo Bienal, where he was awarded the International Sculpture Prize.

NICK GEORGIOU'S SCULPTURES

"CAPTAIN HOOK" TREE

I have been photographing that strange tree at different times of day and during the different seasons for several years. We named this tree as "Captain Hook" or "Ghost Tree". What do you think, is a good nickname for that tree?

In fact this is a tree that have been smothered by the climber shrub, commonly known as Flame Vine or Orange Trumpet Creeper. This evergreen shrub with its showy red-orange flowers, is original from Brazil, commonly known as Flor-de-São-João in Portuguese. This ornamental climber has become an invasive weed in São Paulo crops. The best show of Flame Vine - Pyrostegia venusta - is in June and July. In this time of the year we can see the Flame Vine climbing on trees all around my neighborhood. Flor-de-São-João attracts many hummingbirds.
